Siran Weyr's History

Siran Weyr's history differs from that of Anne McCaffrey in that, the southern continent was never completely abandoned. In fact, as the dragons flourished and multiplied, weyrs were founded in the south as well as in the north. Izar Weyr was the last of the original weyrs established in the south.

Unfortunately, at the beginning of the Interval following the 6th Pass, a fish plague swept through the Southern Seas; Izar Weyr was not immune to its ravages. All but 11 bronzeriders succumbed to the disease borne by the infected fish. More than half-crazed from their loss, especially the deaths of Izar's 4 queens, the bronzeriders tried to "time" it, in an attempt to prevent the disaster. Too horribly disoriented to navigate properly, the bronzeriders were forever lost Between. Izar Weyr was left undisturbed as a memorial to the lost dragonriders.

As the Red Star came closer, and the 7th Pass was imminent, the weyrleaders decided that another southern weyr was needed to fight their ancient foe: Thread. A new weyr, dubbed Siran, was planned and built on a chain of islands in the east. Volunteers from all over the planet moved to the new weyr, and it was just barely finished before the deadly Thread began to fall, heralding the beginning of the 7th Pass.
